It’s ALIVE! July 12, 2008

Posted by Ruzter in Assembly.

For fun , I wired up my motor controller from the CNC Mark II to one of the new Mark III motors. I knew the voltage was wrong (12V vs 8 V), but the old controller is probably good for an amp or 2 and the new motors are 4+ amps, so the controller was the weak link. I wasn’t really paying too much attention, so I was actually surprized I got the wiring right the first time. Here is the beauty: on my old machine I had a problem with stalling the motors. I tried to stall this motor and even when I pushed and gripped as hard as I could (I put my shoulder into it!), it made no signs of slowing/stalling at all, and this is with a much less than optimal current source (controller)! This makes me very happy. Here is a video I made. I think the music that happened to be playing is quite appropriate. 😉
